I Did Not See the Nazi
I Did Not See the Nazi
I did not see the Nazi
For he was riding undercover
Through farms and blocks and cities
With neighbors, friends, and lovers
I did not see the Nazi
Though he was hiding in plain sight
Wandering like a zombie
With an old, Prussian blight
I did not see the Nazi
Though he was screaming with all his might
For guns and God and glory
For all the shades of white
I did not see the Nazi
When his eyes would betray his rage
About some Semitic conspiracy
And complicity on a global stage
I did not see the Nazi
When he was foaming at the mouth
With fiery, fascist fury
About his scapegoats farther south
I did not see the Nazi
When he shrieked about something east
Their guns, their gods, their glory
Or perhaps a different kind of priest
I did not see the Nazi
When he was looking for a fight
With his disconnected posse
And those he deemed alt-right
I did not see the Nazi
Marching with menacing might
Like a crazed kamikaze
Diving to defend divine right
I did not see the Nazi
Though he was standing in the light
But now I see the Nazi
In the dark and torchlit night
